Work began in March 2014 on the newest addition to the Coombe Farm Cottages family, Morvoren Cottage. We had named it before work even started, using the Cornish word for mermaid. Already having a barn that sleeps 6, and two self catering cottages that sleep 4, we were pleased to add a different choice of cottage to the farm. Perfect for cosy couples to get away from it all, or for the grandparents when the family are staying in another cottage! It is set away from the courtyard for extra privacy.

Following months of careful planning, the builders started and the conversion quickly began to take shape. The first job was remove all the ivy from the walls, then the roof came off. Quickly a new roof with enormous timbers replaced the ancient one, with a carefully left hole for the chimney of the wood burning stove. While the builders worked away on the walls, windows, and started dividing up the inside into rooms, we started on the fun bit, how to furnish it.

We wanted an added bit of luxury, so added the underfloor heating, dishwasher, flat screen TVs (including one in the bedroom), black out curtains, and a P shaped bath with drench head shower over.

Soon enough, as the floors went down and the curtain rails went up, it was time for the final touches. The fencing went around the private garden and the grass grew very quickly.

Having spent time up at Morvoren Cottage finding homes for all the brand new inventory, hanging the curtains, cleaning the slate floor and burning off the wood stove ready to use, it struck me what a truly relaxing and peaceful location it is. Gazing out french doors over the green fields and sheep with not a house in sight, I was quite tempted to just move in myself then and there!

The place has been transformed in 6 months from a muddy old storage barn, to a stunning well finished high class holiday retreat. Don’t just take my word for it, come on down and see for yourself.
